Using Radios on the Paintball Field

Even though some of you might have a strong distaste for their use on the field, us radio friendly players will probably have the last laugh. Technology in radios isn’t like it was back in the olden days. New ones have a huge range and little interference.

But radios can be used in arenas too because no matter what the scenario, two heads are better than one. You’ll want to purchase at least a 2 watt GRMS radio. It’s a little extra money, but worth it for the clarity. Remember to pack extra batteries when you’re gathering your paintball air tank, marker, and other gear. Turn the VOX off so your partner doesn’t have to listen to you breathing the entire day. Ear buds with mikes are a good choice to make it easier to communicate.

Beforehand, come up with a list of brief and direct messages to exchange. Messages need to be basic, clear, and easily convey the information. Code words are always fun, just make sure everyone is aware what you mean by “The ravens have flown past midnight,” otherwise it might get awkward and someone will get shot by mistake.

Great post- two way radios would be great to have during a paintball game.
