Playing paintball in the woods is all well and good, but imagine if you had the run of an entire town to host your next paintball tournament? For some, that dream just might come true. A paintball battle involving 700 players from around the world get the run of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) land in Brecon Beacons in England. The mock-town was originally built and used during the Cold War to train soldiers. However, the MoD has yet to confirm if the event will, in fact, be held there this July.
(This isn’t the first time the land was used for alternative purposes. Back in 2010 the National Theatre Wales put on a production of Aeschylus’ The Persians.) The Bavarian-style town was built in the late 1980s towards the end of the Cold War. Back back to the paintball. The event is already sold-out and will feature players from the U.S., Canada, South Africa, Germany, France, Russia, and a handful of other countries. It’s possible the event will have to be somewhere else because it might be needed by the Armed Forces. Financial costs and insurances will also be required before MoD can approve anything. One thing is certain, this will be epic if allowed.
